A former Kenyatta University student who took to the streets with a placard to ask for the job has landed one.

Rakiel Kaoka, an Economics and Finance graduate, has landed an entry job at the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) in Nairobi.

After walking around Limuru Road with a placard bearing her name, image and qualifications, the 24-year-old quickly attracted the attention of Kenyans, some of them potential employers. One of these was Josiah Moriasi, CEO of YEDF, who reached out to her shortly afterwards. She has now signed a contract with the company for three months, and reported for her first day earlier this week.

Speaking to The Nairobian, Rakiel expressed her joy at the turn of events.

“I did not expect this to happen so fast,” she said. “I am definitely thrilled, and grateful to all those who reached out to me.”

She has also called on her fellow graduates to take the initiative, as the job industry is tough and highly competitive.

“You should be aggressive; jobs will not come by on their own. You have to go out and work towards getting one.”
