A number of students in Moi University main campus are in tears after landing on the hands of con men who claimed to be the stakeholders of Childcare International. Steve Nyang’au who claimed to be the human resource manager, managed to sneak a notice to the university’s notice board advertising the non-existent job to the thirsty-for-job students. The notice was posted to all notice boards in school of arts and social sciences attracting the highest population of Moi University undergraduate students.

In their notice, the con men outlined to offer well-paying part time jobs, internships and attachment positions for the interested graduates and undergraduates. They went on and made it more existent by asking the interested students to send their CVs and any other credentials to [email protected] before 10th November 2016 and that the successful applicants shall be posted latter in Cheptitret, Tulwet, Racecourse and Kesses areas. Furthermore, in their notice they promised to pay 15,000 to 45,000 and accommodation services depending on the assigned role and nature of employment.

Soon after the affected students applied, they received an email notification from the above mentioned email address that they (con men) are glad to inform them that they have received their applications and hence have qualified for the applied positions.

This was part of the email message

After receiving the above promising but deceiving message, affected students accepted the deal giving an assumption that if the notice was brought to university’s notice board then it must be something genuine. Most students called their parents to inform them about the job asking for the amount (KSH750) to be paid before 12th November 2016 noon which was the last time Francis Njoroge (0706541071) whose name appears in the Mpesa statements switched off his phone to date the source disclosed. “The person has been off since he received our money through Mpesa”. Today was scheduled for training but unfortunately “Safaricom’s mteja wa nambari” is all what the affected students can hear from them.
