The
decision by President Uhuru Kenyatta to cancel his trip to Angola and instead
meet security chiefs in the wake of the Al Shabaab attack on lodging in Mandera
is commendable.
Many
Kenyans, especially non-Muslims in northern Kenya have lost their lives as a
result of the attacks. If not contained, the economy of the region will remain
in jeopardy as people continue to flee for fear of their lives.
The
government must ensure it outdoes a militia that often lives with the public.
It should work closely with the locals, who may be able to point out strangers
in their midst.
Open
lines of communication between the Kenya Defence Forces and locals should be
established to win the war.
