It
began with the famous NYS scandal under the Department of Devolution and
Planning. More than one billion Kenya shillings were misappropriated.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing and the hope of getting the
answers as to whom apparently stole the cash is becoming bleak. The nation still
awaits the findings of EACC.
As
the scrutiny into NYS is still occurring, another corruption scandal has hit
the government again! This time, it’s the Health Department that has attracted
our attention. From the reports, more than five billion Kenya shillings went
missing after the usual tender allocations. Different companies are listed as
having received distinct millions of shillings in the allocation.
Parliament
has demanded speedy inquiry into the matter that is likely to see thousands
suffer due to lack of medical care in many of the public hospitals, should the
money not be recovered.
Has
this country become a place of the few; where one corruption scandal leads to
another and the investigation drags on and on until we forget? Perhaps those
pocketing the cash think of themselves as ''untouchables'' hence can steal
whenever they want.
With
devolution taking its course, and governors having realized the importance of
being a governor, more of such accounts are likely to be experienced in the
future, should the country not take grave steps in stamping out corruption.
