The new varsity ambassadors were crowned in a colorful celebration at the institution’s main campus after emerging best in a modelling competition.

The final competitions drew participants from all faculties and schools as well as other contestants from the satellite campuses. There were 7 male contestants and 13 female counterparts who took part in the competition.

Mark Barasa, a second year Political Science student is the new Mr. KSU while Emily Onyango, a third year Law student has taken the Miss KSU position for the next one year.

Onyango said in an interview that she has started a ‘Know Yourself ‘campaign which is meant to create awareness to university students and staff as well as locals on matters pertaining HIV/AIDs.

This is in relation to Kisii County’s high prevalence of HIV/AIDs, which is currently standing at 8 percent.

“The sensitization will involve going for door to door in the students’ hostels and in town streets for the commercial sex workers,” said Onyango.

Barasa, through his passion in modelling, intends to open up an academy for male models in the university.

“Male models are few in the country, therefore, I want to increase the number through establishing a males modelling academy,” he declared.

The two models have been sponsored by the Aliyana Professional beauty group for a one year free make-up and hairdo.

They were congratulated by the varsity’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Akama, who told them to be ambassadors of peace and be role models to other students.
