CORD supporters are keenly watching developments within the coalition, especially with regard to picking the 2017 presidential flag bearer.

We understand that by now, all three co-principals have declared their interest in running for president on a coalition ticket.

Some have even launched their presidential campaigns. That is their democratic right.

But what is perturbing are the demands by some hopefuls to be endorsed for the top job.

Some have even asked their colleagues to stay away from certain regions perceived as their strongholds. Such demands and assertions do not look good for democracy.

Every aspirant should be allowed to campaign freely everywhere and anywhere in the country.

They must be given a chance to sell their policies to Kenyans. This is because every presidential candidate must be evaluated and judged based on the programmes, ideas and policies he or she has for this country.

We expect all the aspirants to ultimately be subjected to competitive primaries where every coalition party member will be allowed to nominate their preferred candidate.
