Students‘unrest in universities is fueled by lack of
dialogue with the management.
On Tuesday, Kisii University was shut after students went on
the rampage to protest new fee payment system.
There has been outcry from students that their leaders
cooperate with the management in passing new rules without seeking their
opinion.
University management should reach a consensus with students
on pressing issues to avoid unrest.

The recent unrest in Masinde Muliro and Kisii universities
is disturbing. Students seem to enjoy engaging police in running battles.
The students went on strike to protest fee increment and the
zero balance policy but why take it to the streets when you can dialogue? Why
risk sleeping in a cold police cell or injuring yourself in chaos?
Students and varsity management should embrace dialogue to
address thorny issues instead of waiting for issues to get out of hand.
One wonders if it‘s the management or students to blame for
the turn of events.
