We are living in a dynamic society, where everything is changing. We humans are
also not immune to this change. I remember growing as a young boy; I watched
how gender roles were drawn to draw line between boys and girls. Most often
boys were assigned chores that were perceived as manly and women, chores that
identified them with the gender. At the end of the day that was used to
determine what kind of a man or woman one would be.
However
in the present day, things are changing rapidly, even those reserved in their
traditional cultures have been forced to embrace the new culture with no haste.
The
world we live in, women are fighting out fairly with male counterparts. These
are not the times when you will boast over women over your A's in high school
or first class honours in University, because she has it. The times when women
can foot hotel bills, reducing you into a mere man, forget your mheshimiwa title. Initially it was a
taboo for a woman to take lead, worst in relationship matters. How many women
have gone against the odds and have what they desired? We are in era of
sponsors but don’t be surprised we have sponsees who are seriously funding young
people.
It is
also worth noting that the world is slowly embracing women leadership. Although
in some societies (Africa, Middle East and Asia) women are still discriminated
from leading, other developed nations have given women opportunity to rule.
Angel Merkel has been Germany prime minister for a while, the impeached
Brazilian President Rousef, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberia president and first
African female president, just to name a few. The same will soon be witnessed in the United States of America in this year’s
presidential elections as Democrat’s Hillary Clinton is expected to show
Republican’s Donald Trump a political whipping.
Men also have been shocked women by dominating in women’s field. Walk in five star hotels around and you will be shocked that the tasty food that is making you salivate was cooked by a male chef. The same applies to homes. How many men are comfortable cooking for their wives?
