MUDAVADI'S MOVE SET TO SOLIDIFY CORD STRONGHOLDS

Kenyan politics is by each day changing ahead of August 2017 general elections. Over recent past the country has experienced exodus of politicians from one political divide to another divide. Some have hogged the mainstream media limelight and curved a niche for themselves.

The recent signs that Alliance National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has been warming up to Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) did not catch me by surprise.

He is in line with my school of thought that politics has no permanent friends or enemies but it depends in the parties and alliances they belong to. His move is also timely owing to the fact that the house of Mulembe largely supports CORD alliance leader Raila Odinga.

It is not lost on me that Mudavadi sometimes back did publicly apologize to Luhya people for his past political mistakes. However more calls have been made that he retreat to CORD coalition, a coalition that he decamped before 2013 general elections to United Democratic Front (UDF). It is also important to note that he fared slightly well in his Vihiga County with 49 percent beating Mr. Odinga by 3 percent, as he managed 46 percent. In the remaining Kakamega, Busia and Bungoma counties he lost to Mr. Odinga, this seemingly has not changed and if it has, it is just slightly.

Mudavadi's move if actualised will solidify CORD's support among Luhya voters, owing to the fact that he still has a say in Luhya vote.
