Kibabii University has been closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage yesterday. The students held demonstrations, paralyzing transport and businesses along the busy Chwele-Bungoma highway.

The police, who were called in to quell the protests, were overpowered by the rioting students. Vice Chancellor Odeo Ipara said the students had complained of shortage of chairs and mixed examinations results.

"We had resolved some of the grievances raised by the student council but it seemed they were hell-bent on causing chaos," he said.
