The move by Funyula legislator Dr. Paul Otuoma to go back to his mother party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was long anticipated. Coming from a county considered an ODM zone in the country it was a suicidal political path he had taken earlier together with ODM former secretary general and Budalang’i law maker Ababu Namwamba.

The funny thing about our politicians is that they make political decisions based on their personal needs while ignoring voters who voted them into that particular seat. However when voters who in their knowledge and the feeling of betrayal turn hostile to politicians, they change their minds retreating back to their political affiliations they once ditched.

Politics is a funny game, a game of numbers indeed. A game in which there is no permanent enemies or friends. Today they will dine together but tomorrow will be arch political rivals hurling all sorts of insults and attacking each other at the moment’s notice. Voters initially have been duped to dancing to tunes of such politicians who embrace political antics. However in present day voters are more empowered and as far as the leader in question is deemed incompetent, he will be taught a political lesson during general elections.

Fortunately Funyula voters may forgive Dr. Otuoma by retreating back to his mother party, but who knows things might be different on the ground.

Furthermore there are lessons we’ve learned from his actions recently.

That in Kenya once, you go against the will of your voters by decamping to another political party, you’re in big trouble and you may have just dug your own political grave.

That in Kenya, going against your political bosses even if it is in your home backyard may later haunt you as the political king pin may as well dethrone you.

That in Kenya, the days of making personal political decisions and retreating to our ethnic extractions are long gone, you will die your own death.

That in Kenya voters have recently been empowered on array of political affairs, you can lie on a few but majority follow political events on many platforms.

Finally politics of parties are still alive and well. As far as you’re in a party that does not enjoy mass support in that particular, expect a landslide lose to your other contestants.
