Kidero denies endorsing Uhuru for presidency in 2017

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has said his remark during the opening of the 2016 Nairobi International Trade Fair on Wednesday was not meant to endorse President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 2017 presidential.

In his address, Kidero thanked President Kenyatta for attending this year’s event, adding that he was confident that he will also do the same during the next year’s event which will be held in October 2017, just two months after the August 8 general polls.

"Let me just thank you for always honoring us from 2013, you were here, 2014, you were here, 2015 you were here, this year, we're together and we are definite and confident that you will be with us in 2017," Kidero said.

However, the governor has denied making the remark as an endorsement of Uhuru's 2017 bid for the presidency saying the event was not a political rally.

“Just to be clear, I was inviting H.E Uhuru Kenyatta to next year's Nairobi International Trade Fair since he is a fairly successful dairy farmer.” He added.

“Nairobi International Trade Fair 2016 wasn't a political rally nor a campaign. I was thanking the President for attending the past successful events,” Kidero said.
