Kenya has secured a Sh700 million grant from the US government to boost the energy sector.
The agreement signed between the two nations and witnessed by Deputy President William Ruto in New York, during the US/Africa Business Forum.
The DP said the grants will go a long way to actualise the Government's plan to supply electricity to all homes in Kenya.
The Kenya Electricity Generating Company- Kengen will be among the beneficiaries of the grant.
Ruto told the forum that the Government had set strict time deadlines to provide cheap electricity across the country, and that this had resulted in significant reductions in the cost of power in the country.
"This trend is expected to continue as we seek to exploit the vast geothermal resources in the country and it is our intention that the private sector will continue to be actively involved," he said.
He explained that the government's focus is to ensure that clean and renewable energy forms a high component in the power generation mix.
