In recent past, Kenyans have witnessed war of words between the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) over supervision of the forthcoming national exams.
On one hand, the teachers' union, through their Secretary General William Session, has remained adamant that head teachers will not pick exams while TSC has explained in no uncertain terms that the heads must collect and return exams from collection centers.
TSC and Knut should address their concerns expeditiously to shun any unnecessary delay when exams kick off.
The current hard-liner stance could greatly jeopardize the integrity of the national exams. Last year, both KCPE and KCSE exams were marred with widespread irregularities and malpractice.
If previous statistics of cancellation of exams results due to cheating are anything to go by, both TSC and KNUT should cease from chest-thumping and address the problem at hand.
Both parties must work together and see to it that the integrity of exam is maintained. The adverbial relationship between teachers and the government should not be dragged to national exams.
