The growing number of strikes among medics could easily slide the health sector into a crisis if it is not handled with care by relevant authorities.
Truth be told, the Government has made great strides in improving the health sector and I can attest to the fact that Kenya is healthier now than it was a year ago. However, the sad thing is that the Government has neglected the welfare of service providers - the medics. This has led to strikes being witnessed in most counties today.
The plight of the medical professionals has been ignored for long and it is time it was addressed once and for all.
Over the years, the medical practitioners have been striking over poor working conditions, delayed salaries and promotions. Though they have raised these issues in a diplomatic way, it seems their pleas have fallen on deaf ears with their demands being ignored most of the time and only fulfilled in bits when they down tools. The medics welfare needs to be catered for if we are to achieve a more healthier society.
