The resignation of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission chairman Philip Kinisu was long overdue. Public officers serve on the basis of trust and that is why they are expected to be beyond reproach.
This is the reason anytime the public loses confidence in an individual, it is always better to quit as fast as possible.
Mr Kinisu occupied a very important office and as such very high ethical standards were required from him. His work included getting rid of corruption in the society. It therefore, worked against him when a company associated with his family allegedly won tenders with NYS currently under investigations over a Sh791 million scandal.
His resignation should also serve as a warning to other public officers to be wary of circumstances that might be deemed as conflict of interest.
