Kenya and America have something in common especially when it comes to elections. America always conducts their elections one year prior to Kenya. Kenyans have always had an interest in America’s election especially after president Barrack Obama’s elections. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has made very grievous accusations against president Obama and his democratic rival Hillary Clinton that they were the founders of the Islamic state (ISIS) group. Trump has suffered a long string of missteps that have marred his campaign since he won the nomination last month. These allegations are very serious that, if Donald Trump is to continue further he should go for a mental checkup.
This also applies to various contenders of posts in Kenya. Why don't we have a clause where mental checkup and educational requirements should be made a must before a person is cleared to contest an elective seat in Kenya and that should be done before nomination is done? We always assume that all is well with those who want to vie for various seats but look at the very many cases of hate speech, theft and rape cases in courts by some people we call our leaders? Look at the various cases of assault and brawl our leaders were involved in? This shows that we may be suffering from ‘Trumpnism’ here in Kenya.
Therefore after these leaders are elected that is when their true colors come out. This mental examination is very important. It is a mandatory in Kenya for someone facing a murder case to undergo mental examination, why not our leaders as these leaders when chosen will lead Kenya as well as take care of our budgetary planning. Why is it that when someone applies for a job in Kenya he/she is subjected to produce certificate of good conduct, clearance certificate from higher education loans board HELB, Tax compliance certificates from Kenya revenue authority KRA, clearance from ethics and anti-corruption authority EACC and clearance from credit reference bureau CRB, but our contestants are given easy time when they ask for those elective seats.
Usually a CV is also needed with full details of educational background, professional qualifications and attachment of copies of certificates, relevant testimonials and national ID must be produced before a person can be called for an interview. All applicants should be received not later than a time, day and date given. The adverts end with the words that, ‘only shortlisted candidates will be contacted’ and any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.
Let all aspirants undergo mental test before they contest for seats and furnish voters with the relevant certificates same as job seekers are subjected to when asking for a job. But when it comes to those contesting we only take their word as gospel truth.US actor Robert de Niro compared Donald Trump to mentally unstable character he played in the iconic 1976 film Taxi Driver even calling the Republic nominee "totally nuts”, that Donald Trump has descended into paranoia and vigilante anger at perceived sleaze. Donald Trump is clearly angered by news reports that he has grown depressed and sullen over presidential prospects and also said that he is running against the "crooked media" as his moods are often sullen and erratic. Donald Trump looks exhausted, bewildered by the political process. This shows clearly signs of mental imbalances. Are some of these signs visible to some contestants in Kenya?
