A few weeks ago, Nancy Gitau, the head of political advisory unit at the executive Office of the President tendered her resignation to the Head of State. Apparently, she gave notice that she would be leaving the government beginning August.

When she was asked why she was quitting the Uhuru administration after playing a critical role in the President‘s 2013 General Election campaign, she appeared guarded.  She said she was happy to be leaving after serving the Kenyatta administration for some years.

Ms Gitau joined the government in February 2007 as senior political adviser of former President Mwai  Kibaki. It was during this period that her interaction with Uhuru began and the intelligent, astute and refined political player would soon become a  key personality as the crafting of a Uhuru presidency began to be discussed. Gitau would become the member of a think tank that  coordinated political campaigns that would ultimately  culminate in a UhuRuto vicotry.
Jubilee supporters have no doubt that Gitau would wish to see Kenyatta re-elected in 2017. This is why she must rethink her decision to quit. She deserves credit because she gave the President sound advice and looked out for his  interests.
