After hovering up and down, left and center Ababu Namwamba finally resigned the position of Secretary General for ODM on Thursday 6th July 2016. He did this in Masinde Muliro, Budalangi campus. He said that he will make an official announcement in Nairobi and hand in his resignation letter.
Ababu’s action of resigning comes a week later after the party’s vice chair Paul Otuoma also resigned.
Namwamba had accused the party of rendering him powerless as they had said the SG position had been long vacant.
The party’s allegations of him being an absentee SG also steered his resignation especially his absence in the IEBC demonstrations. According to Ababu he was out taking care of important issues, furthermore he was on paternity leave.
This is what Ababu said yesterday during the all-white party where he was seen dancing with a cooking stick.
“And so today I feel light, I feel free, I feel like a man who has traveled a long journey with a heavy log around his neck. I feel like a man who has found a helper to lift that log from around his head. Thank you my people.”
From his own words, does he mean that being the SG for ODM was a burden for him? Mind you, in the weeks before he resigned, he kept reminding Kenyans that he was the general of ODM, he took the position of SG, no one forced him.
Ababu thanked the Budalangi people for assuring him full support.
We are still waiting to see his next step; he has not made it clear if he is also leaving ODM.
