Justice for Lawyer Willie Kimani, his client and the cab driver

On the 23rd of June Lawyer Willie, his client and a taxi driver were leaving the Mavoko law court after hearing of a case which involved an administration police officer, soon after they were abducted by unknown persons and their whereabouts remained anonymous. All fingers started pointing towards the administration police who was a party to the case. Information from the case was that the officer was facing serious offence which would have possibly lead to his interdiction thereby creating a reasonable suspicion at that time that he might have a hand in the mysterious disappearance.

The legal fraternity in show of solidarity started to voice their concern on the casual manner the incident was being handled, pressure was mounting after a peaceful march to the office of the inspector general by the members of the Law Society of Kenya to present a memorandum highlighting the demands which included speedy investigation and a report into the matter. The following day an application for habeas corpus was brought to court where the head of security of the country were enjoined, this is normally done where a person’s whereabouts is unknown and it is suspected he might be in the custody of police. In a sudden turn of events, the shocking discovery of the slain bodies of the lawyer and the cab driver were found in a Mbogoria river, indication of torture and brutal murder was confirmed.

Credible information disclosed that the two were taken to the Syokimau administration police depot where they were detained for a day and it's suspected afterwards that they were tortured and killed. This incident has shaken the legal fraternity and humanity as a whole, it's despicable and I condemn it with the strongest terms possible, whoever has been or is suspected to have been involved must be brought to book, we live in an era where the rule of law must be upheld and respected, extra judicial killing have no place in the 21st century especially when it is instigated by people with whom we have entrusted our own security.

Being a lawyer, my conscious is bleeding and I feel like my profession has been attacked for no lawful reason, for a soul to be taken away mercilessly from an innocent advocate discharging his professional duties is an affront to human rights and constitutionalism. Lawyer Willie, the client and the cab driver may your souls rest in peace, it is a dark day in the history of our profession but on our part we will not rest until justice is done.

To the families of the fallen, accept my sincere condolence and may the Almighty give you strength during this difficult time.
