The characteristic of being selfless is one of the most important traits any Christian should have. It is very significant that Jesus said it is the second most important of all God's commandments "You shall love your neighbor as you love yourself" Mark 12:3

Selflessness is an act of salvation, which leads me to the question. What is a Christian understanding of the term salvation? In our greetings or introduction we declare that we are saved by the blood of Jesus. Christ died for our sins; this clearly shows that he was selfless.

Roman 15:5-7" Therefore accept one another, just as the messiah also accepted you, to the glory of God" Salvation is selfless. The bible asks us to accept on another just as the Messiah accepted us but what is seen instead is Christians gossiping about their fellow Christians' weaknesses. Instead of helping such a Christian they gossip and furthermore even isolate them from church activities.

Selflessness leads to generosity. Proverbs 19:17" Giving help to the poor is like loaning money to the Lord. He will pay back your kindness. “A Christian who is saved is expected to be generous. You will see us going for extravagant trips when a kid next door does not own even a pair of shoes. I know what you already thinking, that you cannot give what you do not have. I have heard this phrase from my fellow Christians more times than I can remember. Just praying for others in your brokenness is a selfless act of love.

Selflessness runs counter to human nature, which is why being selfless is much more difficult than being selfish. It’s natural to care about ourselves and we are encouraged to think selfishly from all sides. However the Christian must daily heed the words of the Apostle Paul, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who lives, but Christ who lives in mean the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me “If Christ indeed lives in our inner man and we keep in step with Him, we should find ourselves identifying with him.

The truth is we need to serve God in selflessness more than He needs us to serve him. Service in selflessness can open door of ministry we never would have dreamt of otherwise. 2nd Tim 3:1-5" Remember this! In the last days there will be many troubles, because people will love themselves, love money, brag and be proud. “All these are acts of selfishness.

We as Christians should strive to help such people. People will refuse to forgive. They will love pleasure instead of serving God and will act as if they serve God but will not have his power. This is what Christians should be fighting against.
