Boy-child is now an endangered species

Last week, the Independent Medico-Legal Unit released its findings on the killing of eight youth on April 19 by police at Mukuru kwa Reuben. It said the eight were shot at close range while either kneeling or lying on the ground.

It further said the eight were planning to start a youth group, contrary to the police’s claim that they were planning to commit a crime.

The findings are a clear indicator that the eight were executed. However, the most disturbing thing is that the killings did not elicit any public outcry.

Indeed, the conspiracy of silence on executions of the eight youth is a clear indicator of the low levels the society has sunk as regards discrimination against the boy-child. If the eight were girls, there would have been a countrywide outcry.

Even the Kenya National Human Rights Commission has been mum on the killings. Which humans does it fight for their rights? Are boys not humans? Surely, why has the life of the boy-child become so cheap? Indeed, boys are an endangered species.
