A six-page letter is at the centre of a fight for the late Nakuru East MP Kihika Kimani’s estate.
The handwritten letter dated October 28, 2002 is attached to a Nakuru court file and Mr Kimani is the alleged author of the document crucial in the determination of who gets what share of the his property valued at over Sh600 million. In the letter, which is disputed by family members, the author describes each of the family members and awards them property. A succession case filed eleven years ago is yet to be settled.
In the letter, Kimani allegedly says he will “subdivide some of my property to some of my family members because some of them have never worked for anything”.
Kimani left behind eight widows. A woman who showed up after his death as the ninth wife with an interesting story of how she married the MP under Kikuyu traditions was excluded from the property claims.
The former MP also owned about 1,000 acres in Njoro, Nakuru. Among the coveted properties is a 50-acre parcel in Engashura, Bahati.
Others include vast lands in Rumuruti, Laikipia County estimated to be about 1,000 acres. There are three plots in Naivasha and one in Nairobi valued at over Sh100 million.
The total land mass in Laikipia and Nakuru counties is approximately 3,000 acres.
Nakuru Assembly Speaker Susan Wakarura Kihika, who is among the deceased’s 41 children, was given 10 acres and described as a good girl. “This is the girl I love most. She did me good in America,” reads the letter on the first page.
Early this year, seven Kihika widows stormed Susan’s home in Engashura, accusing her of attempting to disinherit them.
