With all due respect, I fail to understand the goodness of power that results to clinginess. The worst that has resulted from it as experienced in Uganda and Zimbabwe are unemployment, war, displacement of people, bloodshed and unnecessary enmity. The problem is that the youth are slowly embracing this as a norm. Why cling on to power?
Babu Owino, a young enthusiastic man is making headlines as he is not ready to let go off his chairmanship. He has been in power for three consecutive terms but does not seem to get satisfied. Like Museveni and Mugabe, he still believes he has what it takes to lead. What charm is in power?
Meanwhile, UON comrades have taken to the roads to protest what they believe is unfair. They call for a re-election. According to these irate comrades, they fail to understand how Babu won yet he was the least favourite candidate.
Malpractice during elections reflects a behaviour that is common in African Nations. Not only is lecture time wasted but also useful energy. Some of these comrades have been hurt as a result.
Our leaders should clearly see how they impart on the youths. These leaders ought to be good role models. Whatever they utter is perceived differently by the youths.
Again, these leaders should learn to accept change. Babu Owino should therefore step down and allow another comrade to take charge.
It is alleged that the comrades do not want him. According to them, he has embezzled more than enough funds from them and his leadership is wanting. Peace will only result if he steps down.
Babu Owino should understand that his time is already up. Helpless comrades are willing to cause unnecessary chaos just to see him out. Why put a fellow comrade in such a situation? Babu should step down.
