The county has partnered with Karatina University in a programme to make Nyeri a green town.
The university through a programme dubbed ‘Greening Nyeri County’ is undertaking a project to make the county green through establishment of environmental clubs in selected primary schools.
Nyeri Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai said the project that has been rolled out in 27 primary schools is aimed at helping mitigate the effects of climate change, which have occurred due to increased logging.
Speaking during the International Day of Forests at Gatuanyaga Primary School in Kieni, Wamathai said that emphasis should be made that every farm be put under 10 per cent tree cover.
