Raila should start grooming another Odinga

Former Prime minister Raila Odinga and opposition chief now has the last chance of fulfilling the promise he made to his late father.

Raila assured his Dad that one day an Odinga will rule Kenya, not as a prime minister but rather the president.

Raila's journey has been long and I consider him the most consistent politician of all times. But does he have a chance of clinching the top seat?

The recent disclosure of the MOU signed between Raila and Kalonzo in 2013 openly tells me that the marriage between the two will not succeed since Raila will not be willing to give up his last chance and support Kalonzo.

He is however left to choose a running mate between Mashinani party leader Isaac Ruto and Moses Wetangula.

Wetangula however recently declared his presidential bid. This means that Raila and Wetangula might not be seen anywhere close to each other in 2017 as Raila will not be willing to support Wetangula (a man who almost lost a small senatorial seat).

If Mudavadi decides to run for presidency Raila is left with Nyanza and Coast provinces as his last resort.

But does this assure him of clinching the top seat considering the low voter registration turn outs experienced in the region? Will he be able to counter the tyranny of numbers in Central and Rift Valley?

Raila is now left to weep since his age does not allow him to run in 2022. Maybe he should start grooming another Odinga to try his luck because it now looks like mission impossible. Raila will be left to regret ever making that promise to his dad.
