Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho has said tenants in County House will be relocated to alternative houses. He said their rent will be paid by the devolved government during renovation and restructuring. He said the proposed redevelopment of old county seeks to erect modern houses. “ The reason for building houses is not to make profit but to lift living conditions of residents,” said Joho when he spoke to estate leaders and investors at Whitesands Hotel. He said the aim was to see current tenants turn into owners through an affordable mortgage scheme. The governor was reacting to a query by Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya Organising Secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa who alleged plans to hike the rent and kick out current tenants.
