The closing down of two container freights stations associated with the Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has triggered all kinds of reactions all across the country.
On the side of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), where Joho is a key figure, the leaders led by Raila Odinga claim that the action is a move by the government to bully the Opposition and finish it politically. However, for someone with a sober mind, someone who attempts to pause and think twice before opening his/her mouth will smell a rat.
What Kenyans need to know is not just how the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) ordered the closure of the container freight stations, but why? We need to know about the illicit rice, ethanol and sugar that President Uhuru Kenyatta oversaw its destruction a week ago, which was allegedly cleared by the stations and the true reports about the allegations of smuggling of multi-million shillings worth of goods.
It is not just about more than 1,200 people losing jobs as a result of the closure of the two stations rather it’s about fighting impropriety in the all sectors. It’s about ‘cleaning up’ our beloved country which means sometimes radical measures must be taken. Any true patriot will tell you that our economy would rather dwindle on legitimate means than flourish on spurious way.
In this country we uphold democracy and in a true democratic environment no one is too big for the hand of law. No one should infringe the law thinking that they’re some kind of sacred cows that cannot be touched.
There is a famous proverb that says “He who rides a tiger is afraid to dismount.” I’m just asking: Is it that you are riding on an illegitimate deal? Kenyans need to know the truth. As our leaders, we need you to display all the cards on the table and not just put your voices on top claiming that this and this person is targeting me for his/her personal political ambitions.
Just like any other Kenyan, you should allow the law to take its full course. One thing I know is that truth needs no color and whatever the case, it will always come out. If the records are clean and that there are no skeletons in the in the cupboard, well and good, you would have passed integrity test!
