It is important to be a good wife

There are very many bad wives in our society today.

Whoever brought this clamour for equality and women’s liberation messed up our sisters’ heads big time. Granted, education enlightens and is very much desirable because it opens doors.

However, it has its downsides where women feel equal to men because they rightfully earn their keep, perhaps more than the man.

But this is neither God’s design nor plan for marriage. Who is a good wife then?

Prayerful and religious. Of course men pray too but a woman who understands the power of prayer is priceless. This is a woman in close contact with God. She reads the Scripture daily and ensures her family obtains God’s favour.

If she is serious about her moments with God, her husband will have less trouble.

Submissive. This one is a thorny issue because most women have mistaken it for weakness. Especially when she is paid well. Sadly, we have equated money with power so some women literally control their men. A good wife understands the immense power in submission. Ironically, submissive women do “control” their homes because a sensible man will do anything for a humble woman. Actually, men resent and rebel against aggressive, controlling women.

Respectful. No man wants a wife who will shout obscenities in private or public. Or a woman who speaks disrespectfully to him.

A bad wife will quarrel with her husband in front of the children and wants to override her husband’s opinion all the time.

A good cook. Be not fooled. This is Africa where men love well-cooked and delicious food. Actually all over the world, cooking good food is considered an art. Cooking good food requires hard work, passion and interest.

If no one bothered about food in your home, do not carry those bad habits over. Simply develop interest. Find out about the various spices and when to use them.

Hospitable. Anybody coming into the home must be made to feel at home. Have you ever been to homes where you have never met the mama of the home but the treatment is phenomenal you do not feel like leaving?

A good financial manager. A spendthrift is a man’s worst nightmare. A good wife will be prudent in the way she handles finances.

Men tend to be big spenders due to ego-related reasons but a woman who is sober in financial matters should steer the family to prosperity.

A good home maker. No sane man wants to come home to a dirty and unkempt house.

Even if a housegirl cleans the house, the wife must be vigilant to ensure hidden corners are clean as well.

The pampering type. Yes a man must be pampered. You might ask why not the woman? Men are usually a bit slow in these things but if a woman does it, they will always reciprocate.

Receive him at the door and speak to him softly to him. Then you will be a good wife, pleasing unto the Lord, and unto your husband.
