With the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) branch and national elections around the corner, it presents a great opportunity to make changes to the ailing football sector.

The current football management has failed in its mandate. Since they took over in 2011, the federation has been marred with allegations of corruption, poor management and negligence. They leave behind a tainted legacy that needs dedicated mindsets to clean up. A case in point is the manner in which they handled the national team, Harambee Stars trip to Cape Verde.

Coaches are always hired and fired after a dismal performance that is not actually their fault. At times, players get stranded in foreign countries while on international duties due to lack of funds. There is also poor remuneration of players.

At the club level, referees officiating matches get meager salaries yet they are expected to be impartial and fair in their actions. This is not practical.

The consequence of this poor leadership is loss of sponsorship of clubs by companies; fans failing to attend matches thereby denying local clubs revenue that eventually leads to demoralised players who boycott training or put up a poor show during games.

Those legible to vote in the forthcoming elections should vote wisely. Put into consideration the interest of Kenyan football at heart and avoid being coerced to vote for unsuitable candidates seeking to advance their selfish interests.
