Lionel Messi is a superb player but...

By winning the Ballon d’Or award for a fifth time, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi goes into history books as one of the most talented and extra-ordinary player of his generation.

That Messi is in a class of his own is not debatable as his golden and landmark performance in La Liga and Champions League, where he scores when he wants, has been quite outstanding.

Messi played a very critical role in helping Barcelona win in the highly technical La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the highly prestigious Champions League.

However, Messi has some grey areas that ‘damages’ his glittering football career, one of them being his inability to steer his country Argentina to win the World Cup.

If he could have steered his country to the World Cup victory, Messi could gone into history books as the greatest football superstar of all time. He could have outclassed his fellow countryman Diego Maradona, who until now, is simply the best and greatest player of all time

In fact, Messi cannot even be compared with former Barcelona stylish player Ronaldinho who used to play with a wide smile on his face and steered his country to win the World Cup.
