Ferry services boss sacked days after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s impromptu tour

MOMBASA: The embattled Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) Managing Director Musa Hassan Musa has been sacked.

Others sacked were head of engineering services Amos Nyadero and operations boss Anthony Madzungu. Finance Manager Bakari Gowa was appointed managing director in an acting capacity.

The changes followed a lengthy board of directors meeting at KFS headquarters chaired by Chairman Mshenga Ruga.

"The board of directors held a special meeting to seek redress on persistent challenges facing ferry services across the Likoni channel and the board resolved to send the managing director Musa Hassan Musa on a terminal leave with immediate effect," Mr Ruga said in a statement.

The sackings come after President Uhuru Kenyatta made an impromptu tour at the troubled KFS headquarters in Likoni on Monday.

Musa has had a troubled tenure at the helm following frequent breakdowns and congestion at the channel. Late last year, Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa accused Mr Musa of incompetence and corrupt and vowed to have him replaced.

However Musa denied the corruption and incompetence claims and instead blamed the national government for meagre funding.
