Maendeleo Chap Chap should turn the tide

The launch of Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement by Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua (pictured) was a strong statement that Kenya is politically mature.

Considering that Dr Mutua has not enjoyed a good working relationship with his Wiper Democratic Movement leadership, the governor should be encouraged to go ahead and register his movement. Mutua's predicament in the Wiper party is not his alone.

There are probably hundreds of other Kenyans who feel short-changed in the political parties they belong to and who would want to break lose and join a new outfit.

Considering the fact that Mutua has been lauded for transforming his county - once ridiculed for lack of social services - into a model county, his Maendeleo Chap Chap ideology is a significant model to galvanise Kenyans into pulling together to demand and push for holistic and speedy development across the country.

My request to the governor is that he keeps his promise that he will work with the youth, because at the end of the day, we young people are often left out of political processes and only found valuable in chanting political slogans and carrying party placards.

Mutua should not be cowed by the threats and intimidation from the Wiper leader because he has a chance to cut a niche. Maendeleo Chap Chap is timely.
