The promulgation of the Constitution in 2010 ushered in a golden era in the development of rural areas. Regions which were categorised as peripheral became the nucleus of development. Many rural residents have hailed devolution for bringing development closer to them.
Governors who serve as County Chief Executive Officers are the envy of every elected leader due to the colossal sums of money under their control. This has triggered turf wars between them and other arms of government. The Executive and Legislature are all up in arms against the governors. With the next polls fast approaching, gubernatorial positions are the target of most politicians, with senators leading the pack in an going effort to unseat the current county chiefs.
Vying for the post must be guided by the desire to improve service delivery. It is clear that many senators want to be governors because of the limited power given to senators by the Constitution. The Constitution should be amended in order to make the Senate the upper House to give senators power to veto decisions of the National Assembly.
