Africa is the only continent in the world where presidents remain in power for decades regardless of what their subjects say, do or feel.

Democracy is hardly practiced here despite many leaders from other continents advocating for it. US President Barack Obama relentlessly preached it during his tour to the continent and urged leaders to shun egocentrism but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Burundi plunged into chaos after Nkurunziza announced that he was running for a controversial third term.

African presidents should know that it is very crucial for them to vacate office once their term expires. They should not cling to power when the citizens are suffering. They should preach democracy and practice it. This will help in ensuring phenomenal peace prevails.
