Kanu petitions President Uhuru Kenyatta over Eurobond

The Kenya Africa National Union (Kanu) has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to clear the air over the Eurobond billions.

Kanu Secretary General Nick Salat said the Jubilee government needs to table documentary evidence on how the money was spent.

Speaking at his home Sunday during the graduation ceremony of young initiates, Mr Salat said the President is duty bound to answer Kenyans because it is the latter who will ultimately pay for the Eurobond.

"There has been a lot of noise over this Eurobond issue. On one hand are Kenyans asking how the Sh140 billion Eurobond cash was utilised and on the other are Jubilee leaders trying to silence Kenyans by intimidating them," he said.

Salat was accompanied by Senator Zipporah Kittony, MPs Raymond Moi (Rongai) and Johanna Ng'eno and Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion.

Salat cautioned the Jubilee administration against attempting to muzzle Kenyans' by asking those that have raised questions to record statements with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

"I have known the President for a long time and when he was the Kanu chairman he did not shy away from giving answers when asked. I want to remind him that he has been entrusted by Kenyans to lead this country and one way of showing that leadership is to be accountable and tell us how this money has been used," he said.

Salat said Kenyans are quickly losing faith in the Jubilee administration because of corruption.

"Treasury has published figures it says show how the funds were allocated to various ministries but Kenyans want documentary proof of specific projects on which the money was spent. We insist that if this kind of money was absorbed by the economy the result would be visible," he said.

Mr Moi cautioned Rift Valley residents against joining political parties that lack ideologies.

"It has become clear that in every election, our region uses a different political party. Kanu is the only party that has endevoured to unite Kenyans with its peace, love and unity ideology. This is an ideology that every Kenyan must embrace," he said. Salat called on the residents of the South Rift to join Kanu saying it is the only party that unites Kenyans.
