Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has accused the Government of under-funding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
He said the Jubilee coalition had decided to deny the commission money after it had registered voters in their strongholds.
By so doing, Mr Mudavadi said, the Jubilee administration was attempting to manipulate the outcome of elections; a move he said is recipe for chaos.
"The Government is playing political tricks through the IEBC because most of their strongholds have already cleared the voter registration. They want IEBC to be at their mercy so as to fraudulently cling to power by making the body vulnerable," he said.
He challenged the ruling coalition to let IEBC undertake its functions without interference.
"The previous polls have been marred by cases of voter bribery and malpractices because the electoral body was never allowed to freely operate. We do not want a repeat of the same this time round," he said.
At the same time, Mudavadi called for an extensive audit of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) whose term is expected to come to an end in two weeks' time.
CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae should table a report of the five-year term in office.
Speaking in Eldoret during a Sunday service at the International Vision Centre, Mudavadi pointed out the need for an extensive audit to enable Kenyans understand the successes and failures of the commission.
"Let the commission table a report on its successes and the challenges it underwent before they vacate office. This will enable Kenyans to understand how it carried out its functions in line with their mandate," he said.
