No Mr. President, Kenya is not ‘okay’

President Uhuru Kenyatta while speaking at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Ridgeways described the state of affairs in the country as ‘okay’ but for a start, let us remind the President that the word ‘Okay’ when used as an adjective means- but not limited to - satisfactory but not exceptionally or especially good. Need I remind you Mr President the state of the nation as it is, is anything but far from satisfactory.

Mr. President, Kenya cannot be okay when we have an increased national debt by over half a billion. We owe almost every national borrowing institutions both at home and abroad. We owe the World Bank, IMF, we have the EuroBond which we cannot even account for its expenditure.

Mr President, Kenya cannot be okay when the tax is being increased to generate more money that is continuously looted under your watch. We increase tax to raise money to pay Sh180M paid out to ghost volunteers? We increase tax to pay Sh800M lost through the National Youth Service (NYS) project which someone is yet to be held responsible for? Or the Sh45Billion from Eurobond allocated to the Ministry of Devolution which they cannot state how it was spent? The list of looting is endless and that Mr President cannot be okay.

Do you have any idea what the fall of the Kenyan Shilling against the US Dollar means Mr President? It means banks have increased their interest rates from as low as 12.5% to a whopping 28%. Some are even lending at the rate of 31%, just imagine! Interest rates have increased by more than 100% to some extent. And to make it worse, you stood up and said ‘can’t pay won’t pay’ is that okay Mr President? I doubt.

Leaders have continuously incited Kenyans against each other but not even a single one has been prosecuted. Why? Because we a have a Jubilee Kenya and Cord Kenya. When a member of the jubilee coalition makes a derogatory statement he cannot be prosecuted because it is Cord targeting them. And if a Cord member does the same the situation remains the same, it is Jubilee targeting its members. We have politicised everything from peace and reconciliation, to corruption, incitement, hate speech etc. And that cannot be okay.

Mr President Kenyans are already overburdened, please it is time you stood up and exercised your sovereign authority over the vices your own government has propagated. You have led the Kenyan Shilling to its lowest point ever, corruption has ballooned under your watch, and our economy is under threat, over borrowing, over spending and over looting has become the order of the day in your government. Have you heard the current joke in town Mr President? That corruption is an economic activity in the country now? Now you know.

Before you start thinking about your re-election in 2017, think about sorting this mess we are in Sir. We want to live in a country Kenyans wanajivunia sio wanaumia being Kenyans. The state of affairs in the country are far from okay and therefore rise up and make it okay Sir. Nobody and its true nobody has the powers to do so except you. That is why the buck stops with you, when this government succeeds the mention will only be your name not your cabinet nor kin nor clansmen not even your deputy but you. That is why time is coming for you to choose which side of the history books you want to be in.
