Christian lobby opposes sex education

A Christian lobby group wants the Government to shelve plans to introduce sex education in primary and secondary schools as a means of countering teenage pregnancies.

The Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF) termed the planned introduction of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) as illegal and irregular, saying the move was bound to lead to further moral decay.

KCPF Secretary Vincent Kimosop Monday appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and lawmakers to block any attempts by activists to push for enactment of sexuality education in schools through the Legislature.

"We call on Parliament and President Kenyatta to prevent all attempts to introduce CSE and the whole notion of sexuality rights through the legislative machinery," Mr Kimosop said in a statement.

Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia in September, while launching the National Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy 2015 (ASRHP), said he would work with his counterpart in Education to empower minors with age-appropriate, comprehensive sexuality education.

"The CSE curriculum is not only highly explicit but also stands to expose children from as young as five years to practices like homosexuality, that is portrayed as normal," Kimosop said.
