MPs fault George Aladwa, call for probe on hate speech

Jubilee legislators have condemned Nairobi Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman George Aladwa over an alleged hate speech he made at a rally.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale asked opposition leaders to state their stand on the alleged hateful sentiments made by the former mayor.

The Garissa Town lawmaker said CORD leader Raila Odinga’s support for the former mayor means the coalition wanted to ascend to power through violence.

Raila on Friday said Aladwa’s statement may have been taken out of context. Yesterday, Duale called on Inspector General of Police and the Director of Public Prosecution to make ensure politicians making improper pronouncements are brought to book.

The vocal politician, at the same time, warned Jubilee coalition members from making remarks that incite Kenyans against each other.

“Leadership comes through the will of God. It is unacceptable to kill anyone for whichever reason,” he said.

Duale was speaking during a fundraising at the Life Frontier School in Madogo.

Other leaders who attended the event are Tana River Deputy Governor Jire siyad, MP for Bura Ali Wario and Tana River Women Representative Halima Ware.

Separately, Tharaka MP Alex Mwiru and his Chuka/Igambang’ombe counterpart Muthomi Njuki criticised Aladwa’s sentiments, saying such kind of hate messages could polarise the country ahead of 2017.

They asked politicians to shun irresponsible statements to allow the country to heal through reconciliation and forgiveness.

Aladwa was arrested on Friday and moved from one police station to another over remarks he made on Mashujaa Day in Kibera. He was later released from police custody.
