Moi University's health and medical technical staff have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the administration to honour the payment of risk and extraneous allowances or face a strike.
The staff carried placards as they sang songs around the administration block Friday, calling on Vice Chancellor Richard Mibey to address them.
In a memorandum to the VC, the staff said a 2012-13 Collective Bargaining Agreement had not been fully implemented. Through Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) Eldoret branch secretary Azihemba Mbai, the health and medical technicians said the Moi University Council had not remitted allowance for five years.
"We would not want to create a crisis, but if the management does not honour the CBA fully, then we will be forced to take action and call for industrial action," said Azihemba.
The union official said failure by to pay the staff was against the advice of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission. Varsity officials were unavailable for comment.
