CORD politics now a comedy of errors

The way the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy conducts its business as the main Opposition force projects iconic flaws in its politics.

CORD leaders seem not to understand that in their position, they should consistently pose as an alternative government that should showcase sobriety and statesmanship. The coalition is acting as if it is disinterested in the 2017 contest.

First, its solidarity rally in support of striking teachers was an error. This alternative government should have held a forum to discuss the national crisis and later called for a press conference to give their insight into the crisis.

Calling for a fundraiser for teachers was a second error contained in the first one. It was not strategic because it stood as cheap populism. As a government in waiting, they should not have started what would clearly flop.

The CORD fraternity needs to learn that Kenyans have scaled up their own judgment on politics and the players therein therefore cheap enticement doesn’t wash with them. I suspect that a fragment of CORD leadership is good at reading the king’s nakedness but has no courage to point it out.

I advise the former Prime Minister to ditch his current consultancy on strategic political communication or seek for such expertise if he has none. This is in the best interest of the coalition now that 2017 is fast approaching.
