Three suspects in former MP George Muchai's murder case identified again

NAIROBI: Two witnesses have confirmed having heard gunshots believed to have killed the former Kabete MP George Muchai and his three aides.

The two – Gladys Waithera and Irene Muthoni – identified again three suspects as the people behind their carjacking on the night of February 6, this year, when Mr Muchai was murdered.

The sisters identified Raphael Kimani Gachii alias Kim, Mustafa Kimani Anyonyi alias Musti and Stephen Asitiva Lipapo alias Chokore.

Ms Muthoni told the court how they were hijacked and after driving for some time came to a stop and heard five gunshots. "They drove for some time and came to a stop at a petrol station and I heard gun shots. First two and then three, they returned to the vehicle and drove off," she said.

Muthoni told Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo she identified the suspects from their faces, their voices and one by his hands and the name chairman.

Her sister Ms Waithera, a former employee of Britam, yesterday told the court she saw the faces of the suspects during the carjacking incident. She appeared for cross-examination after the court recalled her.

Waithera confirmed that she identified the suspects after a Directorate of Criminal Investigations officer conducted three identification parades at Kamukunji Police Station on February 15.

"I had identified one of the suspects the moment I let him into my car when they carjacked us. He had a big gun while the others were armed with pistols," Waithera said.

The prosecution produced the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident in court as an exhibit.

Other suspects also facing murder charges at the High Court are Erick Muyera Isabwa alias Chairman, Jane Wanjiru Kamau alias Chiro and Margaret Njeri Wachuri.

They are accused of carrying out two robbery incidents the night before and after Muchai was killed.

All the suspects were charged early this year with murdering Muchai, his two bodyguards and a driver.
