Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has declared his Maendeleo Chap Chap movement unstoppable and dismissed claims he is out to divide the Kamba community.
Speaking yesterday when took his campaign to Emali in Makueni County, Mutua declared that he had volunteered to be used by God to help the people of Ukambani and redeem them from abject poverty.
“We have been mocked for decades because of our abject poverty due to under-development and marginalisation,” he said.
The governor arrived in Emali town aboard a chopper, bringing business to a standstill as he walked around greeting jubilant residents on his way to the meeting venue.
Amid cheers from a huge crowd at the Emali bus station, he declared that the journey “from Egypt to Canaan” for the Kamba community had begun.
He warned that his opponents will be swept downstream in the same way the Egyptian King Pharaoh and his army were.
“Those fighting the Maendeleo Chap Chap movement are wasting their time. You cannot stop the will of God because his will is for the people of Ukambani to get the development they have been denied for decades,” he said.
He asked his Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana to join the movement.
Mutua was accompanied by MPs Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), Victor Munyaka (Machakos Town), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), John Munuve (Mwingi North), Recho Nyamai (Kitui South) former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile.
A host of members of the county assembly from Machakos and Makueni counties also attended.
