Makueni, Kenya - Angry youths disrupted a Wiper Democratic Movement rally on Friday at Kasikeu market in Makueni County, forcing the organizers to call off the rally.
The youths who carried placards with messages in full support of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s maendeleo chap chap movement, were also armed with crude weapons ranging from whips, clubs and machetes.
They brought down the tents which had been set for the rally, saying that they are not happy with the Wiper party after the area MP Regina Ndambuki was mistreated by some wiper supporters during the party’s retreat at Maanzoni last week.
Attempts by wiper youths to reorganize the venue were thwarted by the rowdy youths.
Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo among other local leaders were forced to flee the venue after the rowdy youth took over the market as police watched from a distance.
It was the first stop for Wiper party rally in Makueni County with other rallies to be held at Emali and Wote town.
Wiper party leader had not arrived during the fracas as leaders on the ground were expecting to receive him.
Kilome MP Regina Ndambuki is at loggerheads with wiper party after she was vilified for supporting Governor Mutua’s maendeleo chap chap ideology.
Traders at Kasikeu market condemned the wrangles going on between political leaders in the region, saying that they were forced to close shops hence making no profits.
