Finnish version of Kenyan Open golf tournament

Several participants took part in the Finnish version of Kenyan Open golf tournament held on Friday in Nurmijarvi, a golf suburban city on the outskirts of Helsinki.

Participants thronged the golf course early in the morning dew as the competition formally kicked off. The event attracted regular and amateur golfers who were later to witness a blistering heat in unusual to Finnish summer as they jostled for opening tees.

Kenya Ambassador to Sweden, Dr Joe Sang graced the charity-themed golf competition. Dr Sang lauded the event and Finnish organizers saying it opens yet another channel of business co-operation for entrepreneurs between the two countries.

“There are great opportunities that Kenya and Finland can implement among them agri-business and technology,” said the envoy.

The tournament was hosted by a charity organization, Train With the Champions (TWC) under the banner; lets make children walk.

“We have seen a synergy existing between Finland and Kenya from the marathon sports and so today we want to thank all the participants for their contributions towards charity in golf sports,” said Marko Kouvuneva.

TWC director and Finland Kenya Open Golf tournament sponsor.  He reiterated the importance of the event which intends to extend medical support to children suffering from walking difficulties in Kenya.

Through this charity, we want to make children walk, stressed Koivuneva adding that orthopedic aid recipients have been identified in Eldoret, Kenya. TWC golf tournament has been running for three years now and winners have been awarded full board trips abroad.

Yesterday, different categories including junior golfers took part in the competition. This year, the winner of Finnish version of Kenya Open golf competition won a fully-paid round trip to Kenya with one week stay in the country. Golfer, Jussi Vepsäläinen emerged the overall winner of Kenya Open Golf 2015 competition.
