Leaders tell IG to charge city pastor or leave office

A section of leaders from Kiambu and Nakuru counties have given Inspector General (IG) of Police Joseph Boinett seven days to arrest the “real culprit” in the accident that claimed a woman in Limuru last week.

The MPs said Apostle Maina Ng’ang’a of the Neno Evangelism Ministries should also be investigated over the accident.

The leaders said if the IG does not bring the real culprit to justice, they would force him out of office.

They accused Mr Boinett of taking the matter casually yet there were witnesses who were ready to record statements about the accident.

The leaders, who included Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Kiambu Woman Representative Ann Nyokabi, MPs Kiragu Chege (Limuru), Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete), Kimani Ngunjiri (Nakuru town) and former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi, were speaking yesterday during the burial of Mercy Njeri in Ngarariga, Limuru. Ms Njeri was the victim of the accident.

Mr Wamatangi said it was in the public domain that somebody else, other than the man who was charged in court, was driving the red Range Rover car at the time of the accident and people saw him hiking a lift in another vehicle. He said police started to hide the truth at that point.

“Today, I personally called (Mr) Boinett and asked him about the matter and he told me he has ordered for fresh investigations but we have given him seven days to complete investigations and formally charge the real culprit or we will start a process to remove him,” said Wamatangi.

The senator said the “real suspect” should be charged for the murder of Njeri while traffic police who have been concealing information be charged for that as well.

Ms Nyokabi echoed Wamatangi’s sentiments saying Boinett should either charge Apostle Ng’ang’a or be prepared to go home since Njeri’s family is seeking justice from him.

“It is either Boinett takes Ng’ang’a to court or he be prepared to go home together with the officers at Tigoni Police Station who are trying to cover up the truth. This is a serious issue since someone has lost her life and another person is injured,” said Nyokabi.

Mr Chege told Boinett to also revive a case of another family in the same Ngarariga area, who claimed that the same man had killed their son but the matter was concealed by police.

“My people are seeking justice and we want to know why this man never appears in court. This time round, it will be difficult to hide the truth since people saw him come out of the vehicle and hike a lift from another vehicle,”said Chege.

“If Boinett delays in taking the real suspect to court, Waititu and I will do it ourselves. We are not going to wait again. The suspect has killed several people and got away with it. He will be accompanied by the officers who are helping him to cover up,” said Mr Ngunjiri.

PCEA Presiding Pastor Patrick Charagu joined the leaders in seeking justice for the family.

“It is very unfair that because someone has money he can buy justice in Kenya. How about those who do not?” posed Mr Charagu.

He termed the incident unfortunate as it involved a man of God.
