KISUMU: Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) in partnership with the county government is set to put up a Sh10 billion petroleum depot.
KPC Technical Committee Board Chairman Maisori Marwa said the plant, which is expected to provide employment for over 2,000 people, will be completed by next year.
Speaking at a round table discussion on the initiative, Mr Marwa said feasibility studies are about to commence to determine the best site for the plant.
"We ask residents to receive this project positively because it will greatly impact the county's economy," he said.
Marwa said the depot will also cater to Kericho, Bomet, Nyamira and Kisii counties.
Deputy Governor Mahanga Mwita welcomed the initiative saying the county has a major highway that connects to Tanzania and that "having the depot here will improve trade in the region".
