The Government receives 20 per cent of money collected from lotteries and gaming in the country.

SportPesa Chief Marketing Officer Kester Muhanji said apart from this, the Finance Act 2013 imposes the 20 per cent withholding tax on all winnings from gaming and lotteries, thus giving the Government access to funds that may then be dedicated to the development and welfare of sports.

The industry has been one that has not taken hold in Kenya like it has in other parts of the world such as Las Vegas but one local lottery firm seems to be changing the perception of Kenyans towards the industry.

Sportpesa, a betting site which gives you an opportunity to win cash through predicting the outcome of a game, is leading the way with two jackpot winners having already won.
