The High Court in Nyeri has ordered Embu County government to pay former county secretary Margaret Lorna Kariuki Sh12.8 million for unlawful dismissal.

Lorna will be paid the money as damages, equivalent to her salary for the term in which she did not serve her contract.

According to the termination letter signed by Governor Wambora, Lorna was fired due to pressure from the County Assembly for corruption allegations as well as strained working relations with the executive, the County Public Service Board and other staff.

However, in his ruling Justice Byram Ongaya, noted the sacking was unlawful and ordered that the damages be paid in two installments, with the first batch this month and the remainder next month. Ms Lorna signed a five-year contract with the county government in 2013.
